Welmed supplies medical facilities with high quality Chemotherapy Gowns which are required to treat patients effectively and safely. With recent supply chain issues, many facilities were having problems acquiring the Gowns. Using a unique approach, Welmed was able to overcome the challenges while meeting their customers' needs at the same time.
Challenge
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global supply chains for many PPE and medical products, including disposable Chemotherapy Gowns. Material costs rose quickly, and many hospitals and other facilities were struggling to find sufficient volumes of products in a timely manner due to distributor and/or manufacturer allocations.
Solution
Welmed worked with both existing Chemotherapy Gown customers and new prospective customers to determine their exact needs. Based on their requirements and the patterns identified, Welmed developed a new shipping and logistics plan to deliver products to the facilities faster, including air freight instead of ocean transport and shipments directly to the facilities instead of local storage sites. These solutions were identified, then executed quickly. "Normal processes" were sidestepped for both Welmed and their customers.
Outcome
Because of their flexibility and adaptability, Welmed was able to supply their customers with the Chemotherapy Gowns they needed. As material costs stopped escalating, and the new shipping processes stabilized and became more efficient, Welmed passed along savings to their customers.
