At Welmed, we find solutions for our customers’ challenges. Whether it’s developing new products to meet specific needs, accelerating delivery time to protect against supply chain or transportation issues, or finding alternative products for customers when something is in short supply, our goal is always to keep your operation running as smoothly as possible.
At the end of the day, healthcare facilities rely on Welmed to deliver the disposable surgical and medical products they need to adequately care for their patients. In a recent situation, we helped provide an alternative product for a hospital’s sterile processing operation. Instead of using the usual PPE for sterile processing, this customer is using our Chemotherapy Gowns.
What Is Sterile Processing?
Sterile processing refers to the cleaning and sterilization of devices used in
medical procedures. Once instruments go through this process, they are stored
and re-issued to healthcare staff to be used again. Although it may vary from
facility to facility, sterile processing usually involves the following steps:
- Soiled devices arrive in the decontamination area to be manually cleaned.
- The cleaned instruments are placed in an ultrasonic cleaner or sonic irrigator
and then into a washer or disinfector. - They are then sterilized through a physical or chemical process that kills all
pathogens and microorganisms. - The instruments are then either sent back to a procedure room or to sterile
storage. Throughout the entire sterile processing operation, the technicians
handling the instruments must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The
PPE keeps the staff safe from harmful germs and other substances and help
protects the entire hospital from potential contamination.
Where Do Chemotherapy Gowns Fit In?
Our Disposable Chemotherapy Gowns are an effective alternative to other types of protective gowns, because they are designed to provide wearers with a shield against harmful chemotherapy chemicals. They provide excellent protection and can be discarded after each use, helping prevent contamination and the spread of pathogens in a facility.
One of our customers gave three primary reasons why they feel our Disposable Chemotherapy Gowns are a great alternative product for sterile processing:
- The gowns keep their staff sufficiently protected and dry.
- The knit cuff feature holds the gloves in place and keeps them sealed.
- They can purchase the Chemotherapy Gowns at a great price.
Why Choose Welmed For Disposable Medical Products
If you have a backorder on a particular type of gown or other product, just let us
know, and we may be able to provide an alternative solution to keep your operation
moving. Just like how Chemotherapy Gowns can be used for sterile processing, we
carry other products that may be effective in different applications than they were
originally designed for. The bottom line is that our team won’t stop until we find a
solution that works for your problem, whether it’s a shortage, allocations or
backorders.
